Under the Economic Vitality Incentive Program (EVIP), Governor Rick Synder has called for financial transparency for Michigan municipalities in the form of an online dashboard. BS&A Software is providing a dashboard meeting those requirements to municipalities free of charge - all you need to do is sign up.

>  What does the Municipal Financial Summary include?
The Municipal Financial Summary is intended to provide transparency and accountability to citizens regarding your municipal budget and finances. Within this area, you’ll find summarized and detailed financial data representing multiple years. This data includes current and prior year comparisons as well as charts and graphs necessary to track long-term trends.

The information presented in this widget includes:
  1. Summarized data over a number of years, allowing easy comparison.
  2. Charts and graphs showing trends for Revenues, Expenditures, Fund Balance, Liabilities, and more.
  3. The ability to make comparisons for selected data between years and between municipalities.
>  What does the Municipal Performance Dashboard include?
The Municipal Performance Dashboard includes financial and operating measures important to municipal government and its citizens. The dashboard, powered by BS&A, uses the state of Michigan fiscal distress indicator system and color codes various metrics as to their level of fiscal distress.

The data in this widget includes indicators of:
  1. Fiscal Stability
  2. Economic Strength
  3. Quality of Life
  4. Public Safety
>  How did BS&A populate the historical data for the Municipal Financial Summary Widget?
Each year, every municipality in the state of Michigan is required to submit the Local Unit Fiscal Report (F-65 data). The F-65 data is due within six months of the close of the fiscal year.

BS&A has obtained each municipalities F-65 data from the State of Michigan. We have currently loaded the data from 2006 through 2010.
>  How do I add current data to the Municipal Financial Summary Widget?
If you do not own the BS&A Financial Management Suite of applications, you can manually enter pre-2006 F-65 data or current F-65 data from a special administration application we have created. Once we have verified that a particular user is a valid administrator for their municipality, you can download this application to enter any addition F65 data.

Although we do need to validate the identity of each registered user, we are providing the ability to enter this data free of charge.

If you do own the BS&A Financial Management Suite of applications, site administrators will be able to link their Dashboard to their BS&A Financial Management data to provide up-to-date financial information. Again, we are providing this link free of charge.

You can manually enter Municipal Performance Data from a special administration application we have created. Upon entering data in the municipality administration application, a link will be generated for you to embed in your website.
